Boy meets girl. Then things get hot…

Sally the succubus sucks at her job, no pun intended. Being a former secretary with no love life to speak of doesn’t exactly give her much experience in the “Hot Seductress” department. So when her Master says she’s not meeting her monthly soul-corrupting quota, he does what any loving boss would do – he sends her to Elysian, a reform school for the “wicked at heart.” Determined to prove she’s not terrible at her job, Sally sets out to become the best succubus she can be. And with her long-time crush Hector, the Underworld’s most infamous incubus, as her teacher, Sally’s even more anxious to prove her mettle.

Too bad no one told her that people have been mysteriously disappearing from Elysian, only to show up as mutilated corpses a few days later. Then she might not have been so eager to go, man candy or not.

When the killer targets Sally, it’s up to Hector and her to put a stop to the evil force once and for all. But doing so may cost them their hearts – and their souls.

Fast, fun, and flirty, Carnal is a steamy paranormal romance that’s sure to leave you aching for more.

Carnal by Lola Taylor
Paranormal Erotic Romance

I lost my breath, taking a step back. “But you - you’ve been so silent. So…”
“Cold?” he provided, standing and sauntering toward me.
I backed away, though not out of fear he would harm me. It was out of fear of having my heart torn in half if my instincts, my darkest, deepest desires, were wrong.
I wetted my lips and swallowed against my suddenly parched throat. “Yeah. Cold.”
“I had to be. Professional, that is. It’s the number one rule around here.”
My back hit the wall, and he threw up an arm on either side of my head, cornering me as he leaned in. His mouth was about an inch from mine. “And what I want is strictly forbidden,” he whispered.
I stared at his full lips, wanting to run my tongue along them, to fully taste him. “What is?” I breathed, trembling.
He smiled. “That a teacher will not lust after his pupil.”
I forgot how to breathe as his lips brushed mine in a questioning kiss. “I want you, Sally,” he whispered. “More than I’ve ever wanted anyone before. You’re intoxicating.”
That’s when it hit me - he was asking for permission to continue. “I want you too,” I said, then wrapped my arms around his neck and kissed him deeply.

AUTHOR BIO:
Lola Taylor is a pen name for my, erm, “steamier” novels. I like books that make me laugh, gasp, and swoon, which is what I try to shoot for in my stories. I’m a sucker for fantasy books, particularly those involving vampires and the supernatural – especially while said vampire is sweeping a gal off her feet. I like horror movies, playing around in Photoshop, and wearing the battery down on my ereader. I have two rescued kitties, and a husband who hates to read but gives me his unconditional support, all the same. During the day, I work in a cubicle for customer service and hash out new story ideas in my many notebooks. At night, I work on my stories until I faceplant on my keyboard. Then I wake up and do it again the next day. I love it. =) (The writing part, not so much the “faceplanting-on-the-keyboard” part.) I love Game of Thrones, reading manga, and have a slight Pinterest addiction.

Desprite Measures Blitz, Excerpt & Giveaway!

Desprite Measures
The Caledonian Sprite Series
Book 1
Deborah Jay

Genre:   Urban Fantasy

Word Count:    95,000

Cover Artist:   Alexandria N. Thompson

Book Description:

On the surface she's a cute and feisty blonde, a slender pocket rocket fitness coach. But Cassiopeia Lake has a secret; she's really a force of nature – an elemental.
Water sprite, Cassie, has lived undisturbed in her native Scottish loch for eons. Now, one encounter too many with modern plumbing has driven her to live in human guise along with her selkie boyfriend, Euan. It’s all going fine - until a nerdy magician captures Cassie to be an unwilling component in his crazy dangerous experiment.

Escape is only Cassie’s first challenge.

She’s smitten by her fellow prisoner, the scorching hot fire elemental, Gloria. But how do you love someone you can never touch?

And what do you do when your boyfriend starts to hero-worship your persecutor? Not to mention that tricky situation of being the prize in a power contest between two rival covens of witches.

So when Gloria’s temper erupts and she sets out to murder the magician, can Cassie keep her loved ones safe from the cross-fire, or will she be sucked into the maelstrom of deadly desires and sink without trace?

Excerpt
“Cassie, meet WynterRain,” said Gloria.
WynterRain. Yeah, right.
“Pleased to meet you, I’m sure,” said the witch. Despite its lyrical Irish lilt, her voice was as rough as the rest of her. “I believe we almost met earlier today.”
She’d noticed. I was under no illusion; she could see right through my human shape to the sprite beneath.
“Likewise.” I kept it short, not confirming her supposition. Gloria already looked too interested for my liking, and I had no intention of relating my earlier humiliation.
“Wynter is going to help us with our little problem,” said Gloria. “Aren’t you, Wynter?”
Wynter glanced nervously towards Alastair, and I wondered what hold the vamp had over her.
Alastair maintained his silence. I stared at him in suspicion. He was quivering, the minute, rhythmic clenching of his fists visible in the firelight, and I wondered when he’d last fed.
Alarmed, I turned back to Wynter and found my answer. Even in the half light, the peculiar mixture of fear and desperate longing that twisted her face was unmistakeable.
Wynter was a vampire junkie.
“Oh, do get on with it,” snapped Gloria. “We’ll wait out here.”
Neither of them needed a second invitation. Wynter started to turn back into her van, but Alastair was on her before she completed the move. He buried one fist in her untidy thatch of hair and yanked her head back. She uttered a little scream as his fangs sank into her neck, but there was no real protest in the sound, or fear.

EXCERPT :

The indistinctly, barely warm end of summer air around us was a telltale sign that fall was well on its way. but the sweltering heat had all but completely vanished. I could still feel the faintness of heat lingering on [her] skin from the sun's rays.

Her beautiful, delicious, flawless tanned skin. The two of us lay tangled in each other's arms in the barn loft at my grandparent's horse farm and Harden Fields. This has quickly become my favorite place to get lost with her.

The fragrance sent a vanilla and jasmine surrounded me, as I continued to trail kisses down her neck. I loved to feel the softness of herur skin beneath my lips. The warmth of her body and the way her eyes looked into mine made me want to hold onto her, keeping her with me forever.

Jasmin

Aurora Sky: Vampire Hunter #1
by Nikki Jefford

 Jasmin's Review

4 of 5

Aurora Sky is a fresh and, most of the time, funny start to Ms. Jefford's  "Vampire Hunter" series.  It starts with Aurora being hit by a car. Obviously, that part wasn't funny at all. Aurora nearly dies, but the government saves her with some organ transplants.  She even gets a new heart which came off as a little creepy.

Well, the worst part was, that due to her rare AB negative blood type, Aurora was infected by a Virus and will turn into a vampire, if she doesn't get a monthly dose of an antidote. And let's guess who  has that antidote...  the secret government organization that implemented the virus in the first place! Aurora has to work for them as a Vampire Hunter or otherwise she'll be killed.
It's sad that when Aurora nearly gets killed by the car, her mother practically makes a deal with the devil (the government agency in this case) and afterwards tries to hide everything from Aurora’s father.
Her family is messed up, so it's kind of understandable how Aurora acts next.  After she nearly died, she makes herself a kind of "bucket list", albeit a somewhat self-destructive bucket list.  Things like getting drunk and losing her virginity to a less than scrupulous boy are some of the ways she tries to deal with the trauma.  It’s kind of disturbing.
The secondary characters, good and bad were engaging and entertaining.  I definitely didn’t like Aurora’s mother.  She was as much an antagonist as the government.  It's understandable why she wanted to save Aurora from dying, but the way she handles it is immature.  There is also Fane, Aurora's crush.  He is not your usual high school kid.  He is totally antisocial, but still dated the prettiest cheerleader, Valeria.   So yeah, who can't understand why Aurora likes him?(eyeroll)   In my opinion the best character is Noel.  I kind of liked her, but even if you wouldn't guess it at first,  she has some secrets on her own.
Although the idea of AB negative people catching a disease and turning into vampires is becoming a somewhat overused spin on the vampire genre, it was a nice explanation how Vampire Hunters are stronger than normal people.
Aurora Sky was a fast-paced, action-packed read.  It doesn't require you to put on your thinking cap, learn a new language, science, or religion.  You won't need your dictionary and you will care about the characters, flaws and all.  It wasn't deep, but I loved it!

Northern Bites: Vampire Hunter #2
by Nikki Jefford

 Jasmin's Review

5 of 5

Northern Bites is a fast-paced and very thrilling continuation of Ms. Jefford's "Vampire Hunter" series.  It starts with a bang, when Aurora and Valerie must team up in order to find some killer vampires. Naturally, everything ends in disaster.  However, to Aurora's disappointment, it's not the last time they are teamed up.  When one of Aurora's schoolmates and Agent Crist are killed, Jared, a recruiter for the government organization, Aurora,  and Valerie have to travel to Sitka in order to find the murderer.

I don't pay a lot attention to covers, but this one hit me as odd.  In this regard I prefer the other/old cover more. There Valerie looked more like the dangerous seductress she is supposed to be.

At first I didn't expect a lot from their travel to Sitka, but Valerie and Aurora get a lot of time to interact and I have to admit Valerie grew on me.  Who would have thought the "vixen" could be likeable?  LOL.   She is a tough one to figure out though, at one moment she seems like she cares and in the next she doesn't .  There also was a twist with Jared.  I don't want to say a lot about it, but it was thrilling and a little bit scary at the same time.

In this book there is a lot of focus on Aurora’s personal relationships with different men.  Like the characters in the first book, I like some much better than others.

In my opinion Northern Bites is a action-packed novel with the exact right amount of social interaction.  I loved it!  The end was very surprising.  I definitely wouldn't have guessed the outcome, so it was thrilling until the end!   I can't wait to read the next book in this series. :)

This book was provided free of charge as part of the tour for an honest review.

Excerpt

Eran's account of the first time he met Magdalene

"It was explosive. She fought me, hard...and well," he paused to chuckle while shaking his head in amazement at the memory. "I'd watched her fight before, but I wasn't ready for her strength. That part of her originates from her stubbornness. One of my favorite characteristics and it happens to be the core of her personality. It's what drives her to help others, to put her life on the line for strangers. That's Magdalene…my Magdalene."

He smirked.

"She didn't know it, but I had seen her around. I heard about this girl training others like her to survive our enemies. That was impressive. We have powerful enemies." His gaze fell to the floor in deep reflection. "I found her training," he laughed through his nose, "of course. And I was enthralled, completely and absolutely void of any reasonable thought after laying eyes on her. The way her brown hair swung around, catching the wind from her speed, the blaze in her eyes, and those wings. I'd never, and haven't to this day, seen whiter appendages. She was stunning. So much fury and love was wrapped up in that little frame of hers that I was completely taken from that very second on."

Slowly, he nodded with certainty. "At that point, I knew. I knew that I'd be her guardian. That beauty, that innocence needed protection, and I was going to see that she got it. Nothing," he insisted, "would stop me from it. What I didn't count on was her rejection. I-" One side of his lips lifted in a confident grin. "I'm fairly capable of influencing women. But not her. Magdalene took time, several centuries, in fact. It took countless arguments, coddling of her sensitive ego - don't tell her I said that - and an incredible amount of patience. The fight, I tell you, is in her blood."

He drew in a deep breath, as if to let the feeling of her settle over him, while a smile played across his lips.

"I sensed all this on that first sighting. So I kept my distance, looking for a way in to dissolve that stubbornness." He shrugged. "That was pointless. When we finally did meet, I had a good understanding of who she was, so again I wasn't surprised by the fight she gave me. What surprised me…," his eyes turned warm, remembering. "What I'll never forget, what will stay with me forever, was the passion in her eyes…because it was aimed directly at me."

Excerpt

Sam climbed out of the shower and dried off. She was confused, even angry. Never before had she sensed such conflicted energy in another person. What was wrong with him? Wrapped in a towel, she raced over to her dresser and began digging for clothes. Bra, underwear, jeans—she tossed it all onto her bed and made a beeline for her closet. Should she be offended? And that intensity…that wasn’t normal.
Sam had never been in love before, but this surpassed anything she had ever even heard of. Opening the closet door she found a shirt, pulled it from the hanger, and tossed it on the bed with everything else. She reached in the back, grabbing a jacket and threw it on the bed as well. Tossing the towel aside she began dressing with lightning speed, confusion and unanswered questions running through her head the entire time.
She didn’t know how much longer she could take this. She pulled her underwear on, then grabbed her bra. She let out an exasperated breath as she slipped her arms through the straps and reached back to fasten the hook. If something didn’t give soon—she stopped. Lifting her head toward her bedroom door, she focused. A familiar security swept through the room. Eyes still on the door, she grabbed for her robe and pulled it on. The short hemline and thin satin material didn’t conceal much, but her thoughts lay elsewhere, captivated by the glorious energy filling the room. Why was he back?
She crossed her room, following the energy to its source, the dormitory hall. Tying the sash, she moved to the front door, stopping in front of it. Heart hammering in her chest, she placed her hand on the doorknob and turned it. As the lock disengaged she cracked the door.
He stood, beautiful, frustrated, and still wet. One arm rested on the door jamb, head bowed as if he had been arguing with himself. His shirt clung to his muscled body, sun streaked hair damp and shaggy around his tanned face. At the sound of the door his thick black lashes lifted. He froze. His conflicted energy swept through her as his electric blue eyes scanned her body. Sam’s fist tightened around her sash, biting down on her bottom lip, barely able to breathe as his eyes traced every curve, revealing angst of unexpected erotic desire—and he found her eyes.
He had nothing left. Caught completely off guard, his strength broke, conflict won out. In all the moments leading up to this one…when she thought she needed him, he now realized how much he truly needed her.
Self-preservation flooded through him. His restraint, will power, every device he had ever used to control or extinguish his own needs and desires came crashing down around him before he even had a chance to engage them.
His initial reason for coming back vanished. Shoving the door open, he wrapped an arm around her, pulling her to him. He slammed the door shut. His lips pressed against hers, ravenous, taking what he needed. Nothing else mattered to him. Nothing.
Drawing him in, Sam’s fingers pushed through his hair, repressed desire set free, building with every touch, every caress. She molded to him as he lifted her against the wall. Liberating release flooded his veins, as if he were experiencing sunlight or truly breathing for the first time. Decadent power flowed unlike anything he had ever experienced. His lips left hers as he hungrily searched every aspect of her neck, his labored breath hot against her skin as he crushed her to him. She gasped, trying to find air—the way this felt—indescribable.
Energy in the room spiked as their auras merged, his energy fusing with hers.
Sam grabbed his dampened shirt, pushing it up his sculpted back, his powerful muscles moving beneath her hands as he helped her pull it over his head. Wanting more, hearts racing, blood pumping, her craving fingers explored his powerful chest, pushing past his naked shoulders, caressing his neck and lacing her fingers into his hair—she pulled.
Trin gasped, responding to the erotic pain, arousal flooding his body. He found her lips again, pursuing, pushing. Reason and reality had disappeared. Trin was taken, lost in the seduction of the woman he loved. Wherever her ravenous fingers went the tension, stress, and pressure melted away beneath them, erasing the pain, the doubt, and the crushing fear of defeat. He welcomed it.
A few broad strides to her room, back to the bed he had forced himself to leave only ten minutes earlier. His powerful body covered her, his soft lips moving passionately against hers.
A measurable physical science erupted within the room, elements working together in a feeding frenzy as preparation set in to ignite a power that had not been alive for a century.
Trin’s strong hand slid down the side of Sam’s body, his large fingers wrapped around her thigh pulling it up around his torso.
A voice—buried deep within the euphoria of the moment—nagging him.
Annoyed by the distraction he pushed it out, driven by his aching need for her. Never having experienced such power, he was unprepared to fight it, and in this moment he was unwilling to fight it.
Sam’s fingers pressed into his back, her breath sweet and inviting on his neck, the exhilarating warmth of her mouth tracing the length from his collar bone to his jaw line, then pulling his face back to hers, erotic softness of her lips molding to his over and over again.
Stop. Not yet.
His hand moved to the sash on her robe, pulling at the knot, loosening the tie.
You have not earned her yet!
Trin flinched—pausing, the words rattled him. His pumping heart forced labored breath as conflict and truth wrestled for his attention. She was his Goddess, his sacred prize, yet he had given her nothing.
Sam’s hand slid beneath the waistband of his jeans, pulling at the buttons. The sensation of her fingers yanked him back to her. A throaty groan escaped him as his lips covered hers. He pulled the sash loose, the warmth of her skin flooding him like a drug and he followed its beckoning pull.
Searing gold hummed around her, energy of living intelligence full of life and light—all elements positioned and ready to accomplish their reason for being: to ignite the Oracle power.
You will lose her!
“Sam, wait—” Trin stopped, catching her hand in an iron fist at his lower torso.

EXCERPT
“You won’t be taking shit, vampire.” My heart raced. “I belong to Boulder.” My reflexes were off. My mind felt sluggish, but I was ready to fight to defend myself with all my might.
His eyes began to change, becoming cold, feral… burning.
“Do you? You don’t sound too sure of that, Valkyrie.”
He grabbed the back of my head, dragging my face so close our foreheads touched. “I can give you something Boulder cannot—feed the darkness within you until you think of nothing and no one but me. I will be your everything… your lover, your consort. The air you breathe… There will be no one but me!”
A shiver ran down my spine. His tone was hard as ice with a hint of desperation… longing. His words were like a bad omen. A promise he had every intention of following through with. Acting on pure instinct, I reared back, head-butting him in the face. He did not flinch. In fact, the freak’s eyes dilated with lust.
I spat with disgust. “What you offer is nothing compared to what I can provide you with… power.”
His eyes dilated with shock that I knew.
I continued. “Which I have no intention of doing.” I smiled coldly. “You need me, Alik. The darkness within me might want you… but I sure as hell do not need you. And you and I know there is a big damn difference.” Pulling away from his grip, I stepped back. “So go play your vampire compulsion mind games with someone else.”
He frowned. I sensed something in him twitch… uncertainty. Pouncing on his uncertainty, I pressed my point. “Because the one damn thing that will remain as fact… I will always belong to Boulder. End of fucking story.”
Alik’s eyes flashed with rage. “If you push me, Infinity, I will tighten my grip. That is what a consort does. Fight for what is theirs.”
I tried to back farther away, but the power of his voice wrapped around me like a python, squeezing mercilessly. His eyes fixed on me. He looked at my face, hair, his gazing finally lingering on my neck. With the last bit of my strength, I looked away, taking a deep, cleansing breath. My limbs tingled, trying to get the strength to run, but it was no use. Alik dominated me brutally. Class was in session and this was my lesson. He could bring me down to my knees quite easily.

ISBN:  978-1-62210-058-3

Release Date: 11/4/13

Genre: Paranormal romance
47,000 words

Snared by the mate bond, Noreen risks everything for the men she loves.

Book Description:

It’s 1936 in Calgary. After a terrifying experience, Noreen is frantic to escape the Garden of Eden cult, so she catches the night train north out of town. An ominous stranger and a farmer who’s furious she slept in his barn remind her just how alone she is in the world.

Wolf shifters, Les and Karl, eke out a primitive existence on the flanks of the Canadian Rockies. Between Hunters who want to kill them and a wildfire raging out of control, they’re relieved when their clan leader, Jed, shows up.

Jed has a surprise in his car, though. While passing through the nearest town, he spied Noreen by the side of the road picking straw out of her hair and offered her a ride. Before Jed’s car even stops rolling, Les and Karl know she’s their mate. So skittish she’s barely willing to exit the car, Noreen busies herself helping Jed and his pack mates unload supplies.

Can Les and Karl convince her to stay? If she does, will the risks she faced as a cult member pale in comparison to being mated to shifters?

Guest Blog by Ann Gimpel

What Does Success Mean for You?

While fiction flows readily from my mind to my screen, the nonfiction articles take longer. For one thing, I suppose I don’t want to be writing simply because someone told me a couple of years ago, “All writers must have blogs and do lots of guest posts.”

What that means is I try to come up with a topic that will be of interest to people and will give them something to walk away with. The proliferation of blogs has been as great—or greater—than the proliferation of books in the past few years. So there are a lot of choices. That being said, thanks for tuning into this one. I do try to make the moments you spend here worthwhile for both of us.

Like many of you, I view the year drawing to a close as a time for introspection. For paging through what I did this last year and seeing what went well—and what didn’t. Obviously, no one wants to repeat their mistakes, but it’s seldom that simple. Take the current mess in Washington DC. I’m sure you’re all heartily sick of the endless post mortems. The bottom line is this: a strategy someone thought would work didn’t. That doesn’t mean throwing out all the ideology for a particular party. But it might mean dissecting just what went wrong and why. And dropping the media and their endless (misleading and meaningless) polls into a black hole—forever.

Fortunately, our individual lives are easier to manage. We can take stock of what we want to accomplish in the year to come and apply the filter of our wisdom to figure out what steps we need to take to bring our goals to fruition. When I was much younger, it was traditional to make New Year’s resolutions. I don’t know if anyone does that anymore. I remember some of mine. Back then I’d put my list up on my bulletin board. Not exactly front and center, but close.

That’s the key to any sort of significant change. Prioritizing what we need to do to make it happen. It’s easy to get sidetracked. We all have busy lives. It’s easy to fall into bed and say, “I’ll do that tomorrow.” Nothing of value comes without effort. Sometimes a lot of effort. The effort can be subtle, but that doesn’t make it any easier. Like smiling genuinely at someone you detest because they’re your husband’s closest friend. We can suck things up. It’s actually not even that hard. Sometimes when we “act as if,” we discover the person we thought we couldn’t stand isn’t so bad after all.

We’re all just people. For the most part we’re motivated by the same things. Once our basic needs for food and shelter are out of the way, we’d like to be loved and we want to be happy. Having rewarding work helps, too. Sometimes we get sidetracked. It’s always helped me to look beyond a behavior that grates on me to try to see the person hiding underneath.

What plans do you have for 2014? Is it going to be the best year yet? It could be, but that depends entirely on you. We can have the best intentions, work our butts off, and still not meet our goals. It’s what happens afterward that defines us. Someone rather famous once said, “In order to get any good ideas, you have to get a lot of ideas.”
So what if something you were banking on didn’t work out the way you’d hoped? Be resilient. Be flexible. Take the good parts, jettison the bad, and pay it forward. Anything we do to help others comes back tenfold.

Any stories you’d like to share about successes you snatched from the jaws of defeat? I’ll bet lots of you have them.

Noreen's Choice

Any story about shifters I'm all in. This one was good and worth the read. A bit less shifting than I'm used to reading about, but it didn't take too much from the book. Our characters are dealing with a organization that wants to terminate ungodly creatures ie, shifters. In comes a sweet young woman running from her own “organization”, only to get picked up on the side of the road in desperate need of a friend.

I loved Alice her insight and her happiness showed through, she herself had 3 mates and seemed just fine. (smiles). I didn't get to read their story, I'm assuming its the first book. This was the second, but you could read it fine without the first.

Alice and her mates take Noreen to the male shifters that live up in the woods and are “roughing” it. As soon as Noreen meets Les and Karl they are drawn to one another. Once everyone else has left, the males go about putting Noreen at ease, all of them tell stories of themselves. Before long Noreen accepts the world that fate drops her in. I really enjoyed the easy acceptance, no screaming and fainting. (smiles) With her background and the need to have something of her own Noreen wanted to give Les and Karl a chance.

Magic and shifters yep a believable everyday occurrence. Les and Karl were pretty backwoods they had the money to do with they wanted, but without a mate they didn't see the point. They themselves easily accepted the change in their lives... a mate that they have waited for a very long time for. The passion was hot and instant, and quiet often. No jealousy or anything like that from Les or Karl which I liked also. All three just sparked and made more that water boil.

With a natural danger moving closer and a threat to they shifter way of life, the newly mated couple decided to move to California.. at least for the winter. They don't quiet leave Canada without issue, a kidnap, assault and a couple of rescues later. We see our sexy wolves with their mate headed to California.

It was a really good book, something small was missing … but not sure what it is.. so grab this book and a fav drink snuggle in and enjoy.

This book was provided free of charge as part of the tour for an honest review.
